The Feelgood Fashion creative workshops programme is a series of friendly, informal fashion-focused workshops for young people (aged 14-18) with an eating disorder, an eating problem or a difficult relationship with food and body image. The Feelgood Fashion creative workshops will take place, free of charge, at Liverpool School of Art and Design, during the School holidays.

You can:

  • Enjoy fashion-focused activities in a safe, informal, and supportive environment
  • Decide which activities you would like to take part in – there is no pressure to do anything you don’t want to do
  • Learn more about fashion in a positive and inclusive way
  • Produce creative outcomes (e.g. fashion photographs, fashion illustrations, textile pieces, CAD-based images, fashion film, creative writing, memes, web pages)
  • Meet new people and create a supportive network
  • Engage in fashion activism activities to bring about positive change

The Feelgood Fashion workshops will take place at the John Lennon Art and Design Building, which houses Liverpool School of Art and Design, and is located in Liverpool’s Knowledge Quarter at 2 Duckinfield Street, Liverpool L3 5RD.

A number of activities will be on offer, for example: drawing, painting, fashion illustration, creative sewing, modelling, fashion film, creative writing – or other activities you may enjoy – but there’s no pressure to take part in anything you don’t want to do. An important aspect of the Feelgood Fashion workshop programme is that you – along with the rest of the group and programme facilitators  – can decide what activities should be part of the workshops programme (although naturally this will be dependent upon available funding!) for example, creative activities, watching films, meeting creative practitioners and fashion experts, or other activities that you suggest. Your  opinions, advice, and ideas are very important to us!

No, not at all. We want you to enjoy creative activities as part of the Feelgood Fashion workshops, but there will be no judgment at all about the quality of the pieces you produce – the important thing is that you enjoy the creative process.

No – no diagnosis is necessary to be able to join the Feelgood Fashion creative workshops. If you are in the early stages of an eating disorder, are recovering from an eating disorder, have an eating problem or a difficult relationship with food and body image, you are welcome to join us!

An eating problem is any relationship with food that you find difficult. If you are unsure about whether you have an eating problem, please see the information about eating problems provided by

Mind, a charity that promotes better mental health.Whatever your situation, you do not need to provide any evidence of an eating disorder diagnosis.

Yes. We will provide refreshments and a breakout area for Parents and Guardians at each workshop so they can stay close to you if you – and they – wish.

No, just bring yourself! Essential art / fashion / textile / materials and equipment and light, buffet-style refreshments will be provided, free of charge, by the workshop organisers, so you won’t need to bring anything with you to the first workshop unless you would like to bring your own food/drink – e.g. if you have any specific dietary requirements. During the workshops you will begin to produce creative pieces that you can take home with you if you like, so you may want to bring these back with you to subsequent workshops, and you may decide that you would like to provide some additional materials yourself, but that’s entirely up to you.

Workshop groups will never be larger than 12 young people (aged 14-18), and may be much smaller, so you can get to know each other and begin to form a supportive network. 1-4 workshop facilitators will also be at the workshops to support you and help things run smoothly, and some Parents / Guardians may be present in a nearby breakout space if they choose.

The therapeutic effects of the arts have been recognised for many centuries – engaging with the arts can supplement medicine and other care for people with health problems (physical or mental). In addition, it can build mental wellbeing, which can lead to a wide range of benefits including improved physical health, educational performance and, importantly, increased ability to cope with life and its problems.

The Feelgood Fashion workshops are a non-clinical programme of creative workshops, designed to provide an informal, safe space for you to relax, take part in enjoyable, creative activities, and meet other young people in a similar situation. The Feelgood Fashion workshops are not intended to replace clinical care, but rather to provide additional benefits, for example improving self-confidence, providing a sense of purpose, raising self-esteem, increasing levels of empowerment, helping you to engage in social relationships and friendships, enhance social skills and build a supportive network.

Light, buffet-style refreshments will be available, free of charge, for you and their Parents if you want them, but there will be no pressure at all to eat or drink. You are also welcome to bring your own food and drink if you wish.

No, unless you will find it too expensive or difficult to attend the Feelgood Fashion workshops.
